Because of the latest theoretical attack against the SHA-1 digest algorithm (details), I created a new OpenPGP key:

It is signed with my old key 0x0F7A8D01, uploaded to keyservers, and will replace my old key soon.

Talk about XMPP/Jabber

This evening I gave a talk about XMPP/Jabber at the regulars' table of LUSC, our local linux user group. I already uploaded the slides to my website, and the photos (thanks Mario!) to our gallery.

Serendipity

I switched my blog from PyBlosxom to Serendipity, and enabled all these shiny new (at least for me and my blog) comment and trackback things. Importing my old blog entries was easy, Serendipity is able to import blog entries from an RSS feed, but unfortunately the categories of older entries have been lost. Thanks to Apaches mod_rewrite the old RSS/Atom feed URLs still work.

As a result I'm no longer interested in maintaining the Debian package of PyBlosxom, drop me a mail if you want to take over the package.

Switched to GNOME

After the discussion about the upcoming non-free license change of the ion3 window manager, I decided to take a closer look at GNOME again. Last week I installed GNOME 2.14 from etch on my laptop, upgraded to 2.16 (which was a pain at that time), and found that I could actually make use of it.

Meanwhile I also use GNOME 2.16 on my workstations at work and at home.

Christmas present from Novell

Today a small parcel for me arrived in the office. It was a free OpenSuSE 10.2 box, which I got from Novell for actively testing the new release. I was a bit surprised, because I never tested the new release. What I really did was reporting problems in their previous release OpenSuSE 10.1 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 to their Bugzilla, and looking at the bugreports now, most of them are indeed fixed in the new release.

Thanks Novell for my first Christmas present this year.

Busy

I was quite busy during the last weeks, due to some personal and job-related changes in my life. Sorry for not answering to bugreports and mails during that time, I'll try to catch these up in the next days.
